How Can I Help?
We hear from many people wanting to know what they can do to support our cause. There are many things you can do, both over time and immediately.
Volunteer your time or expertise. We occasionally have events that we need people to help run, such as fundraisers or town hall meetings. We also encourage you to attend public hearings and speak for or against an item on the agenda. This was vital in helping government organizations such as the County Board of Supervisors vote to not support the Shut-Off Plan. Politicians and corporations will respond to the will of the people if there are enough of us making our voice heard.
Write your local newspaper, politicians, and businesses. Let them know how you feel about these issues, how it will affect you, and how you plan to take action because of their positions. An example is boycotting businesses or organizations that support the Sunrise Powerlink or have board members who are SDG&E employees. Hold your representatives responsible when they receive donations for SDG&E or SEMPRA, or if they support projects that you feel your community does not support.
Spread the word. We still talk to people everyday who are not fully aware of the implications of the Sunrise Powerlink or other energy projects in their community. You can educate others about what you have learned.
Donate. The Protect Our Communities Foundation relies on funding to pursue its mission. We are currently raising money to raise community awareness about transmission and energy issues in San Diego, and to fight the legal battle against the Sunrise Powerlink.
