Our Mission

To protect rural communities and backcountry land in San Diego County, while providing solutions for San Diego's future energy needs through local generation and distribution of clean renewable energy.

To oppose construction of destructive, inefficient energy projects, such as the Sunrise Powerlink, that endanger and destroy rural communities and backcountry lands in San Diego County.

Positions

Goals:

  • Protect rural communities and backcountry land in San Diego County
  • Educate people about smart energy alternatives
  • Unite small communities to provide them a more effective voice in the projects that affect them directly
  • Prevent the construction of high impact, low value energy projects, such as the Sunrise Powerlink

POC Positions:

  • We oppose the construction of the Sunrise Powerlink in any form
  • We oppose the increased use of LNG imported from unstable foreign sources and processed in unregulated power plants in Mexico
  • We oppose the SDG&E Shut-Off plan
  • We oppose the use of pristine public lands for new transmission projects
  • We oppose the installation of large scale solar and wind farms in pristine desert areas
  • We support a Roof-Top solar initiative in San Diego County as a source of locally generated renewable energy
  • We support a feed-in tariff program in the state of California that will allow individuals or companies who install solar panels to receive payment for any power they produce in excess of what they use
  • We support Assembly Bill 811 as a means for individuals and companies to finance solar installations over a 20-year period whereby payments on loans would be made through property tax payments
  • We support the preservation of designated scenic areas, wildnerness areas, national forest and national park lands, and other public lands in their natural state for the present and future generations of individuals and individual communities that will use them, and the current and future generations of plants and animals that call them home
  • We agree with the Desert Protective Council’s Solar Done Right Campaign
